An estimation for IP PBX lines & IP Phones in 1Q08.

NortelIPphone iLocus estimates that 5.3 million IP PBX lines were sold in 1Q08. These include those IP PBX lines that were shipped as part of hybrid TDM/IP systems.

Geographical split shows that EMEA leads. The 5.3 million IP PBX lines sold during 1Q08 generated $875 million in revenues worldwide. Avaya leads the market with 25.1% market share worldwide. That lead is followed by Siemens with 23% and Cisco at number three with 17.7% market share worldwide. (Market shares by line shipments).

The ‘Others’ category in the chart below is rather bloated for now because in absence of adequate shipment guidance we have shunted the shipments of the following important players in the ‘Others’ category: Alcatel-Lucent, Nortel, Aastra, NEC, Toshiba, and Philips. My guess (a wild one) is that Alcatel-Lucent and Nortel collectively shipped between 0.7m to 0.9m IP PBX lines during 1Q08.

n the IP Phones category, Cisco held the lead worldwide with market share of a massive 37%. Avaya comes in at number two with 15.5% share. The ‘Others’ category here includes not only the IP PBX vendors we mentioned under similar category above but also numerous small phone vendors.

EMEA leads in the IP Phone category as well. A total of 3.7 million IP Phones were shipped in 1Q08 generating revenues of $411 million worldwide.
